Coping with Hair Loss (cont)

Talk with people close to you about your feelings about hair loss. People can often make throw-away comments about people with hair loss without truly considering their feelings. Often by talking with your friends and family you can make them aware of how you feel about the situation and hopefully avoid negative comments from those that matter to you.

Apply sunscreen when going outdoors to the areas of your scalp that are thinning. Your head has been covered by hair for all of your life, and when the skin is suddenly exposed to the harsh rays of the sun it can burn extremely easily. The last thing you want to compliment your hair loss is sunburn, flaking skin, blisters or worse.

Invest in good clothes. Again, taking away attention from your hair loss, good fitting, fashionable clothes can help make a favorable first impression and can make you feel good about yourself and help alleviate any loss of self confidence.

Do things about the things you can control. Hair loss is generally out of your control, but there are many things that are in your control that you can do things about. Don’t spend your energy and time fretting over hair loss and neglect other areas such as your weight, your health, your personality, your teeth, and your friends and family. As the old saying goes, ‘worry about the small things and the big things take care of themselves’.
