Hair Loss Developments (cont)
In terms of a drug or lotion related cure, it’s hard to be certain what the future holds. It is widely believed that no one single drug will offer a complete cure for hair loss – especially as it’s generally regarded that no one single cause is responsible for hair loss. While Rogaine and Propecia continue to take a dominant share of the hair loss market it is certain that other companies will be looking to take a share of that pie. Recent reports in newspapers suggest that scientists are looking at everything from premature aging of the scalp being the cause of hair loss, to the possible side effects of a new hearing loss drug stimulating hair growth – so the problem of hair loss is certainly being tackled from all possible angles. As a result of this, and the commercial race to reward shareholders, you can be sure there will be a number of products coming onto the market over the next decade. As mentioned earlier, drug companies the world over continue to look at existing patented drugs in the hope that they can offer benefits in areas other than first expected so expect to hear of trials and developments with increasing regularity. As in years gone by, newspaper articles are sure to read that some ‘accidental side effect’ of a particular drug trial has shown an improvement in hair growth in lab mice - and therefore might be the next big thing for hair loss sufferers. If there is anything that is guaranteed to get media coverage, and more sponsorship dollars, it’s the promise of the hair loss miracle cure so it’s hard to get excited about such claims. A sensible head would realize that claims such as those are probably more about gaining funding than anything else.Hair loss sufferers the world over, and for generation after generation, have lived on hope and promise that the Holy Grail of hair loss remedies is just around the corner. We might be more connected and informed these days, but it doesn’t mean we’re any closer than our predecessors to finding a cure for hair loss. The media, web, magazines and newspapers are littered with products, speculation, hope and promise concerning hair loss cures. One thing is for certain though – if ever a product or solution is developed that is proven to be a cure for hair loss, you will hear about it. Don’t be mislead into buying products with scientific or futuristic sounding names and marketing blurbs showing before and after photographs. You can be sure that the media will jump on any product that is proven to work (there are certainly enough bald journalists out there), and you won’t need to read about it in a small article or advertisement on page 69 of a men’s magazine.
